PLATOON LEADER: 1LT Timothy O'Neal

Hometown: Pittsburgh, PA

Birthday:28 November 1980

Biography: LT O'Neal was born in Monroeville, Pennsylvania on 28 November 1980. He graduated from Jeannette High School in 1998 and then proceeded to Allegheny College.

After his first year, 1LT O'Neal enlisted into the Pennsylvania Army National Guard on 12 March 1999. After completion of Initial Entry Training, LT O'Neal transferred to Indiana University of Pennsylvania to join the Reserve Officers Training Corps.

He continued to serve in the 1st BN, 107th Field Artillery, 28th Infantry Division (PA ARNG) while he completed ROTC. He graduated and recieved his commission as a 2LT on 8 August 2003. LT O'Neal entered Active Duty on 14 August 2003 working as a "Gold Bar Recruiter" with ROTC.

On 19 October 2003, he proceeded to Ft. Benning for the Infantry Officers Basic Course, Ranger School, and the Infantry Mortar Leaders Course. On 28 September 2004, he arrived in Vicenza, Italy. LT O'Neal immediately took control of 2nd Platoon "Gladiators" where he continues to serve as the Platoon Leader.

His awards and decorations include the Army Achievement Medal, the Parachutist Badge, and the Ranger Tab.

LT O'Neal has attended Airborne School, Ranger School, the Infantry Mortar Leaders Course, and the Infantry Officer Basic Course.

He holds a Bachelor's of Arts Degree in Criminology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

PLATOON SERGEANT: SFC Stephen Zaleski

Hometown: Eugene, OR

Birthday: 7 May 1968

Biography: Stephen Zaleski was born on May 7th, 1968 in Houston, Texas. He graduated from Wilton High School in Connecticut in 1986. He continued his education at the University of Southern California and the University of Oregon completing 186 semester hours of college towards a bachelor of science in political science and completed minors in philosophy and sociology.

SFC Zaleski enlisted in the Army out of Portland Oregon in November of 1992 and entered active military service on March 23rd 1993. He completed basic training, AIT, and graduated Airborne school at Fort Benning, Georgia in July of 1993.

SFC Zaleski has served in several different duty positions in a variety of different units. He has served as a rifleman, grenadier, automatic rifleman, assistant gunner, radiotelephone operator, fire team leader, squad leader, platoon sergeant, and operations NCO. He has been assigned to the 1-505 PIR, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, NC; 1-24th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, Fort Lewis, WA; 1-32nd Infantry Regiment, 10TH Mountain Division, Fort Drum, NY; and is currently assigned to Chosen company, 2-503rd Infantry, 173rd Airborne Brigade as the 2nd Platoon Sergeant.

SFC Zaleski has been on numerous training exercises and deployment to include the Joint Readiness Training Center, Fort Polk, LA; the National Training Center, Fort Irwin, CA; the Yakima Training Center, Yakima, WA; the Jungle Operations Training Center, Fort Sherman, Panama; and the Northern Warfare Training Center, Fort Greeley, AK. His real world deployment include operations in Panama, Kosovo (Operation Joint Forge), Afghanistan (Operation Enduring Freedom I); Iraq (Operation Iraqi Freedom I); and is currently serving in Afghanistan in support of OEF 6.

His military education includes PLDC, BNCOC, Combat Lifesaver, Emergency Lifesaver, Hazardous Material course, Airborne school, and the Northern Warfare Survival school.

His military awards include: the expert infantryman badge; combat infantry badge; combat parachutist badge; Italian parachutist badge; driver and mechanic badge; the Bronze Star Medal; Army Commendation Medal (with 1 oak leaf cluster); Army Achievement Medal (with 5 oak leaf clusters); Good Conduct Medal (with 4 knots); Global War on Terrorism Expedition ribbon (with Arrowhead); Kosovo Campaign Medal (with bronze star); Global War on Terrorism Service ribbon; NCO professional development ribbon (with “2” device); NATO service ribbon; National Defense Ribbon (with bronze star); and the Army Service Ribbon.

 




1ST SQUAD LEADER: SSG Michael Christian

Hometown: Montrose, PA

Birthday: 17 January 1970

Biography:SSG Christian enlisted in the US Army in February 1991. He went to OSUT at Fort Benning, Ga. Upon graduation he was assigned to A Co. 5/87th INF, in Panama. Following Panama, he attended the U.S. Army Airborne School enroute to the 82nd Airborne Division where he was assigned to C Co. 1/505 PIR. SSG Christian was then assigned to Chosen Co. 2/503d ABN, 173rd ABN BDE in Vicenza, Italy. He participated in the combat jump on 26 March 03 into Northern Iraq, opening the Northern Front for Operation Iraqi Freedom.

SSG Christian has been awarded the Army Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters, the Army Achieve Medal with four oak leaf clusters, Combat Infantry Badge, Airborne Wings with bronze star, and Air Assault Wings.

3RD SQUAD LEADER: SSG Patrick Perkison


Hometown: Augusta, Georgia

Birthday: 21 February 1980

Biography: SSG Perkison was born 21 February 1980 in Olsterholz-Sharmbeck Germany. He was part of a military family and lived at numerous duty stations, until he graduated from Hephzibah High School in Augusta, Georgia in 1998. He joined the Army to be an Airborne Infantryman! SSG Perkison completed Basic Training, AIT and Airborne School in 1999. His first duty station was with A Company, 2nd Battalion 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He rapidly deployed in support of Operation Joint Guardian and Operation Noble Eagle in the Yugoslavian province of Kosovo in May 1999 to October 1999. He then deployed to Sinai, Egypt in support of Multi National Forces and Observers Rotation 31. His dity positions included Assistant Gunner, Ammunition Bearer, Machine Gunner, and Team Leader. He was the Brigade Soldier of the Year in 2002. SSG Perkison joined Chosen company in October of 2002 and became a Team Leader in 1st Platoon. He was a Team Leader for the year the company spent in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

His training includes PLDC and the 82nd Demo and MOUT courses. SGT(P) Perkison was selected for promotion in December 2004 and was assigned as the 3rd Squad Leader in 2nd Platoon.


 




WEAPONS SQUAD LEADER: SSG Jose Magaña


Hometown: Vista, California

Birthday: 7 July 1976

Biography: SSG Magaña enlisted in the service in November of 1997 in San Diego, CA. He went to Basic Training, AIT, Jump School, and Ranger school at Fort Benning, GA. He was assigned to his first unit in April of 1998, to Bco 1-509th INF (ABN) at Fort Polk, LA. There, he served for 18 months as a rifleman with the Opposing Forces at the Joint Readiness Training Center. He was next assigned in September of 1999, to the 2nd ID LRS Detachment at Camp Hovey, South Korea. While there, he served as Scout Observer and as a Senior Scout Observer. His next assignment was in October of 2000, to the Brigade Reconnaissance Company of the 173rd ABN BDE at Vicenza Italy. There, he served as a Senior Scout Observer, and as an Assistant Team Leader until January of 2003. He currently serves as the Weapons Squad Leader for Second Platoon Chosen Company, 2nd BN 503rd INF (ABN). He initially served as the Second Squad Leader when he was assigned to the unit in February of 2003. He deployed to Iraq and participated in the Combat Jump into Northern Iraq on the 26th of March of 2003. He was part of the first US Forces Patrol inside the city of Kikuk, Iraq. He remained there for eleven months helping restore public order and economic development in that city.

He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal (3OLC), the Army Achievement Medal (2OLC), the Global War On Terrorism Expeditionary Medal with Arrow Head Device, the Global War On Terrorism Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal x2, the Non-Commission Officer Development Ribbon x2, the Over Seas Ribbon, the National Defense Medal, and the Army Service Ribbon. He was also awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, the Expert Infantry Badge, Jump Wings with bronze star, the Italian Jump Wings and the Czech Republic Jump Wings.
