Chalbar Air Assault

In the afternoon on 21 June, 3rd Platoon was on guard at FOB Lagman as 2nd Platoon came into contact with a large number of Taliban and Anti-Coalition Militia near Chalbar in Mianeshin District. Assembling as large a force as possible, 3rd Squad under SSG Galvan, a machine gun team under SPC Alexander, and a headquarters element became the quick reaction force to support 2nd Platoon's assault. Reaching the LZ under RPG and small arms fire, these 13 soldiers secured the eastern river valley and although pinned down by effective fire, called in A-10 and AH-64 Apache close air support to prevent the enemy from enveloping 2nd Platoon's position, thereby allowing them to close with the enemy. The result end result of the battle was over 100 enemy KIA and numerous detained enemy prisoners.
